I made myself some pants this week, and I love them! I literally cannot bear to stop wearing them! They are comfortable and easy to wear, they coordinate with everything else that I own, and they even have pockets!
I wore these to have lunch at my parent’s house on the weekend, and my Mum complimented me on them before she even knew that I had made them myself!
Last week it was my birthday, so I finally bought myself the Luna Pants pattern from Made by Rae. I have been eyeing off this pattern for quite a while. I have bought pants very similar to these in the past and I always really like them. But, having the pattern to make as many as I like is a real treat.
These pants have elastic at the waist and ankles, side pockets…and that’s about it really! They are just beautifully shaped and designed.
The pattern is so easy to use as well – there are only 4 pattern pieces, the instructions are clear, and there is very little room for error. I made no alterations whatsoever.
I found that these are quite long on me – which is the usual thing, but this is not a problem because of the style, the elastic at the ankles holds them up nicely without the need to shorten the legs. This does make them blouse out a lot more than it would on someone who is a bit taller than me (not hard), if I wanted them a bit more slim-line at the ankle I would shorten them about 2 inches I think – but I like these just the way they are.
Since I had just bought the pattern online, with instant download, I just had to go out and buy some fabric right away too.
The fabric is a printed rayon from Spotlight. It has a really nice drape to it, its not too heavy to wear in warmer weather, and its not so thin that its see-through. Its just right.
It is black, and therfore a little difficult to photograph clearly. So, all these pictures are a little bit grainy – I had as much light as I could get, but it had to be inside because it was raining outside, and obviously my camera struggled to capture it all.
I did manage to get the fronts a bit too matchy-matchy for my liking.
The pattern is repeated almost exactly on each side. I don’t think I could have done that if I tried, it truly was a complete coincidence. Fortunately that didn’t happen at the back.
Excuse my cat, Max, I hadn’t even noticed him posing along beside me at the time! I also managed to capture a few blurry photo-bomb shots of my other cat playing with the camera! They are so very helpful sometimes.
I love having clothes with pockets. So many ready-to-wear items just skip this important design element. I guess that it is probably a cost-saving measure, but it loses so much practicality. And these are good deep pockets, secured into the waistband so that they stay in place.
I finished making these on the same day that I bought the pattern and shopped for fabric – they are such a quick and easy make. The instructions are clear, the pattern pieces are well designed, and the whole process is well-thought out.
I love these, and I will definitely make more. Lots more.
Thanks for reading.
