Today I’m sharing an amazingly cute new pattern – Kelcee’s Wide Leg Bottoms by Snuggle My Baby. I love pattern testing for Snuggle My Baby, all of Jennifer’s designs are so adorable, and they look really fancy – but they always seem to be deceptively simple. This one is no exception.

Special Details

The obvious special feature of this pattern is the high waist design with the o-so-clever button-up sides.

I’ve tried a couple of different patterns that have this feature, but I’ve never been able to successfully complete it before. In the past I’ve resorted to having non-functional buttons, attached purely for decoration. These buttons, however, work exactly as they are intended to!

The facings for the button plackets, and the side seams all meet up perfectly and I’m completely happy with the result.

Another thing that I love about Snuggle My Baby patterns is that the insides always look just as good as the outsides.

I really love the length of these on Mathilda. I made the size 8, with the ‘shorts’ length, and these are great! I like for my kids to have a bit of extra length – after all they are not teenagers trying to impress everyone, they need to be able to play properly without worrying about their modesty, or about their skin burning off as they go down the slide on a sunny day.

This design also comes in ‘capri’ length, and full length. These are wide leg pants – so they are especially awesome at full length. We still have warm weather here at the moment, so shorts were needed, but these will definitely be my go-to pattern for the colder months that are coming.

They are so very girly, yet still completely practical, and we love them!

The Fabric

This gorgeous fabric is an organic 100% cotton poplin by Cloud9 Fabrics. This particular design is called Midnight Flora in Navy from the Wildwood collection by Elizabeth Olwen.

The colours are subdued, and the motifs are sweet, this is a perfect fabric to make everyday wear feel like just a little bit of luxury.

I bought this at Spotlight – I actually got it out of the remnant bin! And it was the perfect amount for these shorts, I love it when I find just the right amount of just the right fabric – it’s as though the universe is aligned.

The Buttons

I have a bag of these wooden hand painted buttons, I bought it a few years ago and I haven’t used them all yet (I used to them for  the VFT Madison Dress, the Anneliese Dress, Mathilda’s Maple Skirt, and a jacket for me – just to name a few). There are a few different variations to the painted designs, for these shorts I used these ones with a floral design in coordinating colours.

Even the shape of the painted flowers on the buttons matches the fabric!

I matched these shorts with a t-shirt and cardi (both rtw) that matched the accent colours in the fabric – but that seems to highlight the white shapes so much, this wasn’t so evident in real life.

Overall, I quite like this whole outfit on Mathilda.
