This is Veronica wearing A dress that I made for Mathilda when she was about 18 months old. This started the resurgence in my sewing enthusiasm, which had been dormant for quite a while!
This is the first time I tried smocking.
It was made using a printed poly cotton voile. I love this fabric because it doesn’t need ironing.
The pattern is from the “Inspirations Baby” special edition magazine.
This is the first dress that I made for my little Mathilda. I didn’t quite get it the same as the pattern in the book, but I was, and still am, pleased with the end result.
I also made matching bloomers. (The tights are covered in bark from the playground)
I pleated the fabric using a Clothilde perfect pleater because I didn’t have a smocking pleater then, and I don’t think I even knew what one was!
The smocking itself turned out simple, but nice and neat.
The lace trim was some that I had from when I was a teenager making tote bags for myself and friends.
And this is the back yoke.
My sweet little model just wouldn’t stay still, the dress is so swingy that all she wanted to do was dance.
Thanks for reading!
