Today is the release day for a new pattern by Gracious Threads – the Maple Skirt for Ladies!
In August I did some pattern testing for the Maple Skirt, an a-line skirt for girls with patch pockets and a button front. The girls pattern comes in girls sizes all the way up to a size 12 – but now it comes in ladies sizes too.
I was fortunate to be able to test this pattern. This is a very practical and flattering knee-length, a-line skirt for ladies with a shaped waistband, belt loops and just like the original Maple Skirt, there is a button front and patch pockets. However, there is a new twist on the design for the ladies though – it also comes with the option of hip pockets and zipper front!
I used a really intersting patch work denim to make mine. Disclaimer – the denim came like this, I didn’t make it, and it really is patchwork not a print.
Once again, this is a really easy pattern to make, even with the hip pockets there aren’t too many pattern pieces, and everything fits together really well, and was just a dream to sew.
I added some denim ric-rac that I picked up out of the bargain bin at Spotlight, I used it on the pockets first.
And then also around the hem, I had barely enough, but I made it almost close enough, just missing out on the last centimetre! (and I can live with that)
I love the zipper option, although I am very tempted to make myself another skirt with the button-front…
How to get yours!
To get your own version of the Maple Skirt, please visit the Gracious Threads store, where its currently available for a special introductory price of only $6 – but hurry, this price is only available until 31 Oct 16, and you can even bundle this with other patterns to save even more…
…for example, you could also buy the original Maple Skirt for girls, and do a Mummy-and-me look! Here are some pics of ours:
Mathilda, my oldest daughter, has now requested a version with a zipper at the front too!
It was really windy when we took these pictures, and this was a super-quick photo shoot done after work/school, so it was hard to get a good shot with everyone smiling at the same time – too hard apparently, because I think this is the best one!
Thanks for reading!
