I’ve been doing some more pattern testing and today I’m sharing the newest pattern by Snuggle My Baby Patterns – the Vick and Vicky’s Button Up PJ Top.
This is a pattern for a kids pyjama top designed for woven fabrics. The top can have either long or short sleeves with buttons or snaps to close at the front. The top has set in sleeves and a front/neck facing. It is a fantastic basic pattern with good shaping and provides a great basic item that could be left plain and simple, or fancied up as much as you like. I left mine plain and simple for the test, but I can see myself having some fun with this pattern, especially as its for pyjamas which normally won’t be seen by anyone else, so its a good opportunity to experiment a little!
For the girls PJ sets I used pre-cuts from Big W – they picked out the prints themselves – fairies for Mathilda and dolphins for Veronica. These fabrics are quite stiff, but they are very lightweight and perfect for summer wearing. They also don’t require any ironing – which is a definite plus, as I’m not so sure that I would put the effort into ironing pyjamas!
For Jonathan’s PJs I used some beautiful quilting cotton called “Dino Walk” by Sugar and Spice (available at Spotlight), it is so lovely and soft, I used some orange homespun for the sleeves and facings because I only had 1m of the dinosaurs and it wasn’t quite enough, but the orange coordinates nicely, and orange is Jonathan’s favourite colour.
A note on the fabric requirements: So, for Jonathan’s full set of Pjs I used 1m of print, plus some scraps of a coordinate, for Mathilda’s full set of Pjs I used about 1.5m, and Veronica’s full set fit onto the 1m pre-cut! Very economical use of fabric.
The Vick and Vicky’s Button Up PJ Top comes in sizes 2T – 12 years. I made size 4 for Veronica, 6 for Jonathan and 8 for Mathilda. The sizes are perfect just as they are, no alterations required. I made them all with short sleeves, because it is summer here, but there is a long sleeve pattern provided.
This top is suitable for both boys and girls, as you can see it looks equally suitable for all my cuties here. I especially like the shaping around the neckline.
There are two options for the front fastening – buttons or snaps. There are clear instructions for using both in the pattern. I used snaps for all three of these because they are easy for the kids to dress and undress themselves, and because I find that installing the snaps is fun – I get to use my snap pliers!
I used different coordinating coloured snaps for each set of PJs, lavender for Mathilda’s fairies, royal blue for Veronica’s dolphins and orange for Jonathan’s dinosaurs.
Of course, the easiest thing about these PJs is that they have no collar!
That’s right – so easy to sew. So, if you like the idea of woven PJs, but find that collars are too fiddly, difficult, or time-consuming then this is a great pattern. It is quick and easy to put together.
Where to Buy?
But wait…isn’t that just for the top? What about the pants?
I’m glad you asked…
Chris and Christy’s All Season PJ Bottoms
To perfectly coordinate with the Vick and Vicky’s PJ Top is the Chris and Christy’s PJ Bottoms pattern. This pattern is a must-have basic PJ pants pattern with a variety of lengths, including long, capri, and two different shorts lengths. You might notice that Jonathan’s shorts are longer on him than either Mathilda’s or Veronica’s shorts – that is not because his legs are longer, it is because I cut his at the longer length!
But wait…. the Chris and Christy’s All Season PJ Bottoms and the new Vick and Vicky’s Button Up PJ Top are also available as a pattern combo! The Pyjama Set Bundle is also at a special introductory price.
But you have to hurry – the special introductory prices will only be available until 1 February 2017.
